Associate Presbyter

Rev. G. Kalyani Selvaraj has been faithfully serving in ministry for 39 years. She completed her postgraduate studies in 1985 and began her ministry at Siloam India the same year. In 1987, she made history as the first woman to apply for the role of Women Presbyter in the Diocese of Madras, paving the way for future generations, despite the opportunity not being realized at that time.

Rev. Kalyani Selvaraj has dedicated her ministry to serving those marginalized by society, including orphans, imprisoned prostitutes, alcohol addicts, and those abandoned by families. Some of her key roles include:

  • 1988: Studied at Cristhu Seva Vidyalaya (WCC)
  • 1989: Diocesan Women Worker (DWW) in the CSI Madras Diocese (notably the last DWW of the Diocese)
  • 2002: Co-Ordinator for Bible Women, leading Bible Women under the Madras Diocesan Women’s Board.
  • She pursued her theological studies at Tamilnadu Theological Seminary, Madurai, earning a Bachelor of Christian Studies (BCS).
  • In 2006, she was ordained as a Presbyter and has since served in various urban churches. Currently, she is the Associate Presbyter at CSI Emmanuel Church.

Rev. Kalyani Selvaraj married Rev. Dr. V. John Selvaraj in 1992, and together they have continued their ministry, raising a family blessed with two children.

Highlights:
Throughout her ministry, Rev. Kalyani Selvaraj has been instrumental in the construction and renovation of churches as congregations have grown. Her passion and focus lie in building and expanding churches to accommodate the growing body of believers.
